The Children in the Pictures Wins Gold
This year, winners at the annual New York Festivals Radio Awards 2023 included six podcasts from Australia. Among them were The Children in the Pictures, from LiSTNR, which took home Gold - ‘Narrative Documentary’.
The podcast launched last November and came off the back of a video series, which follows father and documentary maker Akhim Dev and his hunt to take down the world’s most notorious dark web child sexual exploitation network. Taskforce Argos, an elite team of Australian investigators, must act to bring these dangerous criminals to justice.
Journo, from Dudith Neilson Institute and Deadset Studio won silver under ‘Series’ in ‘News Podcast’.
Described as an opportunity to ride shotgun with the world's best journalists as they explore the stories behind the headlines, the podcast unpacks the news, and gives listeners an inside look at how it's made, disseminated and consumed.
Two podcasts in the ‘Narrative Documentary’ category were awarded ‘finalists’: ABC’s Pink Diamond Heist and OPERATION ALLIANCE: 2002 Bali Bombings, which marks 20 years of the Bali bombings. The four part podcast series goes inside the police investigation known as Operation ALLIANCE.
Personal Lives entry Let Us In! from ABC and Point5Productions was also placed as a finalist. The series explores the reality for those with disabilities, including the discrimination, the challenges and triumphs.
And last but not least, sports podcast episode Felicite Rwemarika: The refugee who became a pioneer for women’s sport in Rwanda was also placed as a finalist.
